New Alternatives For LGBT Homeless Youth
New Alternatives for LGBT Homeless Youth was created in October 2008 by a group of volunteers and professionals with experience working with homeless LGBT youth in various shelter and transitional housing settings. The mission of the organization is to increase the self-sufficiency of homeless LGBT youth to enable them to “go beyond” the shelter system. We intend to do this by providing case management, community organizing, life skills groups, community-building recreational activities, and, in the long-term, supported employment opportunities. Our guiding principles are those of harm reduction, youth development, and empowerment. New Alternatives For LGBT Homeless Youth

Child Abuse Prevention Program
Since its inception in 1986, the Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) has been at the forefront of giving children the tools they need to prevent and report child abuse. CAPP believes that every child should receive their basic right to safety so that they can have the opportunity to grow and thrive.
With their award-winning Child Safety Workshop, CAPP has found an effective and engaging way of teaching children the skills they need to recognize and resist abuse. Using life-sized puppets to provide school children with safety information, the workshops have reached over 440,000 children to date.
CAPP aims to educate young children about their right to be safe. By doing so, CAPP sets a foundation for prevention; and if abuse is present, allows children to be heard. These children are assured that there is not something particular about them that caused the abuse to occur.
CAPP actively combats the misconception that abuse will go away if we pretend it does not exist. Child Abuse Prevention Program

HOUSTON FOOD BANK
In fall 2008, the Houston Food Bank merged with End Hunger Network, a Houston-area food rescue organization, thus making more effective use of community resources by working together as one.
In fiscal year 2016-2017, the Houston Food Bank distributed 83,000,000 nutritious meals.
The vision for the future is to expand service to the community to 100,000,000 nutritious meals by 2018.
Every dollar donated to the Houston Food Bank provides the equivalent of three meals for an individual.
We calculate this by dividing total meals provided by total adjusted costs, using a Feeding America formula. The number does not include the meals provided through SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps) benefits.
As a member of the nation's largest non-governmental, domestic hunger relief organization - Feeding America - our goal is to make food accessible to hungry people in their greatest times of need.
VISION: Food access for all.
MISSION: Leading the fight against hunger.
Arthritis Foundation
Advocating for Kids With Arthritis
Although juvenile arthritis affects some 300,000 children across the United States, there are currently fewer than 250 board-certified, practicing pediatric rheumatologists in the country. About 90 percent of those are clustered in and around large cities.
Making sure that children who live in places without pediatric rheumatologists have access to quality and appropriate care is one of the Arthritis Foundation’s advocacy priorities. To help children become their own advocates, the Foundation holds an annual Kids' Summit, in conjunction with our annual Advocacy Summit, where kids learn how to talk to lawmakers about the issues that directly impact their everyday well-being.
By 2030, the Foundation will have helped more than 2,000 children and teens with juvenile arthritis develop into seasoned lobbyists with the skills to educate Congress about the impact of JA on kids and their families. Arthritis Foundation

Hurricane Harvey Distribution Center
Hurricane Harvey was an extremely destructive Atlantic hurricane which became the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Wilma in 2005, ending a record 12-year span in which no hurricanes made landfall at such an intensity in the country. In a four-day period, many areas received more than 40 inches (100 cm) of rain as the system slowly meandered over eastern Texas and adjacent waters, causing catastrophic flooding. With peak accumulations of 64.58 in (164.0 cm), Harvey is the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the United States. The resulting floods inundated hundreds of thousands of homes, displaced more than 30,000 people, and prompted more than 17,000 rescues.

Flint Water Fund21 US Virgin Island Relief Fund
On September 6th , Hurricane Irma tore through the Caribbean, meeting the United States Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands head on. Irma was the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic, with winds reaching over 220 miles per hour. In its wake, a post-apocalyptic trail of devastation remains.
Trees and telephone poles were snapped in half; the storm decimated businesses, and left up to 80% of the population without habitable homes. Many parts of the islands project to be without power for months. The scale of destruction is truly unfathomable; the beautiful islands that residents and visitors knew and loved now face years of recovery.
The people of the Virgin Islands are incredibly resilient and optimistic even in the face of this tragedy; stories of islanders helping each other in such trying times have been truly inspirational.
Unfortunately, because of large-scale storm destruction in Texas and Florida, media coverage of our plight has been limited, and federal relief agencies are only now beginning to make a dent in recovery efforts. The Virgin Islands Relief Fund has already begun the effort of supplying those in the greatest need with resources on the ground, but our accomplishments thus far are just the tip of the iceberg relative to the massive task ahead of us. Combining our resources, we have enlisted a team of individuals with a wide range of experience and backgrounds on St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands, and will be tackling the challenging months ahead with unyielding resolve.
